Ted Kimani: AfriThrive’s longest-serving volunteer

Ted Kimani, well into his 60’s, has been volunteering with AfriThrive since Fall of 2020 at the height of the Covid-19 pandemic and he loves doing it.

Arguably the longest-serving volunteer, Kim (as he is commonly known) says his passion for volunteering goes back to his early days of his life when, in the early 1970’s (in Kenya), his mother taught him to embrace the spirit of service.

“I am  not looking to get any acclaims or anything like that. I just want to help people not to go hungry,” he says about his drive and motivation to serve as a volunteer.

“This organization was best suited for me because there are people from home and from other countries too, (because) something that makes someone not go African only or just Kenyans.”

Kim has inspirational words of wisdom to the people out there why volunteering is such a blessing and a service to humanity.

“A lot of people need help in what they are doing, they need encouragement (and) they cannot do it if they are hungry.

“The more you help people, the more they learn. It cascades into people helping others which is one of the best things you can do. Influence other people to serve other people, we don’t always put ourselves first, we (sometimes) have to stay in the background.”
