AfriThrive Mobile Food Pantry – 2nd Week

Without healthy nutritious food, it is difficult for individuals to stay active, think, grow and achieve their full potential. Providing access to healthy nutritious food is the reason we exist in the community.

This past Friday, August 21, AfriThrive mobile pantry distributed 3,000 lbs of fresh produce to COVID-19 pandemic-impacted families within the Baltimore-Washington DC areas. We were able to serve even more families than the week prior and even enjoyed the creativity of our clients who were able to whip up a unique recipe using the food as the main ingredients. After picking the fresh produce from the warehouse, our food truck makes several stops in the North East, DC; Silver Spring and Gaithersburg in Montgomery County; Laurel in Prince Georges County, and Rosedale and Cockeysville in Baltimore County. Our team distributes fresh produce bags to families based on family size and enough to last until the next distribution scheduled for this Friday, August 28th, 2020.

The fresh produce bags contained nutritious leafy greens, red potatoes, butter lettuce, tomatoes, green zucchini, fresh sweet corn/maize, apples (almost identical to enticing header above), and much more. Our distribution cycle occurs once a week, on Fridays from 10 am to 4pm. This food variety is culturally appropriate and appealing to our clients. Several of our clients called and or wrote messages to express their compliments and appreciation for the food assistance.

We continue to serve families adversely affected by the current Coronavirus pandemic on a weekly basis at our Mobile Food Pantry. Community members who are in need of emergency food should call AfriThrive at 240-706-1517 or go to the website www.afrithrive.org and register. We want to assure all our current and prospective clients that we are committed in our food distribution ministry and in ensuring that food is delivered to the nearest and most convenient pick-up locations.
