AfriThrive Awarded Grant from MGM National Harbor

Resort’s foundation raised $236,000 to support local community causes

NATIONAL HARBOR, Md., (August 7, 2025)AfriThrive Inc. is honored to be selected as a 2025 grant recipient by MGM National Harbor through the MGM Resorts Foundation. The MGM Resorts Foundation Community Grant Fund supports nonprofit organizations addressing food insecurity, housing, education, health, and employment in local communities.

AfriThrive is a nonprofit organization committed to building vibrant and thriving African immigrant and minority families through access to nutritious, culturally appropriate food, skills development, and economic opportunity. With support from MGM National Harbor, AfriThrive will expand its Mobile Food Market in Lanham, Prince George’s County, providing low-income immigrant and refugee families with fresh, culturally relevant food sourced from local farmers.

“This funding allows us to do more than feed families,” said Dr. Truphena Choti, Founder and CEO of AfriThrive. “It helps us honor culture, build dignity, and empower our community through access, education, and sustainable food solutions.”

AfriThrive’s Food Program supports more than 250 families in PG County by combining food assistance with education on nutrition, financial literacy, and wellness. The program addresses immediate hunger while tackling systemic barriers to food access creating long-term solutions rooted in cultural sensitivity, empowerment, and equity.

For more than two decades, the MGM Resorts Foundation, a workplace giving program, has been a powerful force for good—supporting the local communities where MGM employees and guests live and work. For the 2025 grant awards, MGM National Harbor raised an impressive $236,000 to support local causes tackling critical issues like affordable housing, education, family services, food insecurity, and more. MGM National Harbor remains committed to partnering with local organizations and strengthening communities across Prince George’s County and the greater Washington, D.C. area.
