Language access is food access. AfriThrive is expanding its team to reach Korean-speaking families in Montgomery County with the dignity-centered, culturally rooted support they deserve.

Since 2019, AfriThrive has built something rare: a food access model grounded in culture, community leadership, and the lived experience of the families it serves. Across Montgomery, Prince George’s, and Baltimore Counties, we have distributed more than 2.5 million pounds of food, reached 49,500 individuals, and served 13,135 families. That work has never been transactional. It has always been relational.

Now, we are taking the next step.

AfriThrive is seeking a Bilingual Community Resource Navigator (Korean/English) to serve as a trusted connector for Korean-speaking families participating in our food distribution programs in Montgomery County. This is a part-time contract role, 10 to 15 hours per week at $25 per hour, with a start date of April 2026.

Language As Core Infrastructure.

At AfriThrive, we believe that food access without language access is incomplete. Korean-speaking families in our service area are navigating complex systems, including food distribution events, health and nutrition resources, and community programs, often without support in their home language.

The Bilingual Community Resource Navigator will change that. This person will show up at distribution events, provide interpretation and translation, conduct outreach to Korean community networks and faith institutions, and make sure every family feels welcomed, informed, and supported.

What This Role Does

  • Support Korean-speaking families at AfriThrive food distribution events
  • Provide interpretation and translation support as needed
  • Conduct outreach to Korean community networks, faith institutions, and local organizations
  • Help families navigate available programs and community resources
  • Ensure every participant feels welcomed, informed, and supported

Who We’re Looking For

  • Fluent in Korean and English
  • Passionate about food justice, equity, and immigrant communities
  • Culturally responsive and community-centered in your approach
  • Organized, reliable, and comfortable working independently

Part of a Larger Vision

This hire reflects AfriThrive’s ongoing commitment to building systems that sustain communities year after year. We are not simply distributing food. We are building permanent, culturally rooted infrastructure, from our refrigerated fleet to cold storage capacity to a renovated community food center in Essex, so that families across Maryland have access to nutritious, dignified support for generations to come.

Adding language access capacity in Montgomery County is a natural next step on that journey.
