AfriThrive CEO to deliver keynote speech at inaugural Minto Conference in Dallas

The AfriThrive CEO spoke at the inaugural Minto Conference, a gathering of Kenyan diaspora members of the Gusii community, held in Dallas, Texas. The event was held at the Renaissance Dallas North Hotel on 1 – 2 September 2023.

Dr. Truphena Choti, also the Founder, is among the members of the Omogusii community whose diaspora experience and, story, is a critical inspiration to others.

Other speakers at the conference  included Kenya’s former Chief Justice David Maraga, legislators Okongo Omogeni (Senator, Nyamira County) and Doris Donya Aburi (Woman Representative, Kisii County), Grand Granite Diaspora Sacco Founder Jacob Ongaki and Mecha Financial Group Founder Joseph Mecha, among others.

“I spoke at the Minto Conference in Dallas,” Dr. Truphena enthusiastically posted on her Facebook page.

“It’s the very first gathering of its kind bringing together the Kisii community in the US.

“Thanks, Risper Abraham for your leadership at Minto foundation and for the invitation to share more about AfriThrive’s work supporting the African Diaspora.”

The conference was held under the theme ‘Unity of Purpose’ and sought to connect “Omogusii from different areas and usher in a much-needed era of collaboration between Omogusii in the Diaspora and Kenya”.

“We strongly believe that everyone should have an opportunity to reach their full potential,” says the conference brief on the event organizers’ website

“Through support via economic mobilization, our community will realize advancement and growth. We believe Omogusii in the Diaspora should be a key participant in pursuing the Gusii development agenda and a catalyst for building global collaborative relationships, mobilization of global capital, lead and/or support Gusii investment activities.”

In addition to reviewing the implementation of key projects, delegates also witnessed the launch of new Minto Foundation initiatives in Education, Healthcare, Trade & Investments and provide Gusii leaders an opportunity to share their vision and hold constituent meetings with Kenyans in diaspora.

The Minto Foundation is an initiative founded by Risper Abraham, a member of Kenyan diaspora from Kisii County, with the aim of fostering and promote collaboration in creating meaningful socio-economic impact and to provide a vehicle through innovative programs that will harness bold initiatives in the larger Gusiiland and beyond.
