Every young woman deserves a space to be seen, to be heard, and to step boldly into who she is becoming. This International Women’s Day, AfriThrive and The BiKU Collective are creating exactly that.

On Saturday, March 7, AfriThrive is hosting “Building the Woman I’m Becoming” — a free half-day workshop for girls and young women to discover their voice, build confidence, set bold goals, and step into their purpose with intention.

Registration is open now. Spots are limited.

What Is the “Building the Woman I’m Becoming” Workshop?

“Building the Woman I’m Becoming” is a free, in-person International Women’s Day workshop for girls and young women in Maryland. The event runs from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on March 7, with lunch provided at no cost.

The workshop is built around one core idea: confidence, purpose, and self-knowledge are not given — they are built. Through guided conversations, interactive activities, and mentorship from two expert facilitators, participants will leave with a clearer vision of who they are and who they are choosing to become.

This is not a lecture. This is a room full of young women doing the work together.

Who Is This Workshop For?

This free girls leadership workshop is open to girls and young women who are ready to:

  • Discover and use their voice with confidence
  • Set meaningful goals that reflect their values and vision
  • Connect with peers and mentors who share their commitment to growth
  • Step into their purpose — with community behind them

Whether she already knows her direction or is still figuring it out, this workshop meets her exactly where she is.

Abigail Ndikum built a movement. As the Founder of the Yale Africa Innovation Symposium and The BiKU Collective, she has dedicated her work to connecting young people of African heritage with innovation, opportunity, and a deeper sense of identity and purpose. She knows firsthand what it means to build the woman you are becoming.

The Why

AfriThrive’s mission centers on nourishing communities — not just through food access, but through education, leadership development, and the belief that every family and every young person deserves to thrive with dignity.

Since 2019, AfriThrive has distributed over 2.5 million pounds of culturally appropriate food, reached 49,500 individuals, and served 13,000+ families across Montgomery, Baltimore, and Prince George’s Counties in Maryland.

“Building the Woman I’m Becoming” is a natural extension of that mission. Community transformation begins when young women are given the tools, the space, and the support to lead.
