When we launched the Grow With Us gardening campaign at AfriThrive this spring, we dreamed of something powerful. We handed out tomato seedlings, published a home gardening guide, and welcomed families to our cultural farm. Our goal was simple—help families grow food, reconnect with culture, and build healthier communities.
In honor of Earth Day, AfriThrive Inc. will launch a new organizational website and introduce its latest campaign giving initiative, Grow With Us, a community gardening campaign that encourages families to grow their own food while deepening local connections. The launch event will take place on Tuesday , April 22, 2025, from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM at the AfriThrive Community Farm in Poolesville, 19125 Jerusalem Rd, with a simultaneous livestream available via Facebook Live.
AfriThrive proudly concluded its inaugural “It Takes a Village” Conference and the 2nd Annual Night of Excellence Gala, held November 1-2 at the Hilton Washington DC/Rockville Hotel. This two-day event gathered dignitaries, community leaders, and professionals dedicated to empowering African immigrant communities and addressing pressing societal challenges.
AfriThrive, a leading nonprofit organization dedicated to combating food insecurity in African immigrant communities, is thrilled to announce that its Mobile Food Pantry Program has been selected once again as a beneficiary of Giant Food’s Community Bag Program for November 2024.
AfriThrive is excited to announce that it has been awarded funding as part of the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) Specialty Crop Block Grant Program (SCBGP). The Maryland Department of Agriculture will fund six projects this year, including AfriThrive’s initiative that focuses on cultivating, preserving, and increasing demand for culturally significant African specialty crops, including pumpkin leaves, African nightshades (Managu), and Spider leaves (Saga).
In the heart of Aspen Hill, a shining example of hope and service radiates brightly at the AfriThrive’s Food Distribution Center, where Octavian Setiawan who goes by the name Danny, a dedicated volunteer, has been making a significant impact since March 2023. With a spirit ignited by a desire to give back and personal encouragement from his mother, Danny, a student at Montgomery College embarked on a journey that not only changed his life but also the lives of those he serves.
