AfriThrive Announces Dr. Ohhh as Year End Campaign Ambassador

AfriThrive has named Dr. Ohh as its Year End Campaign Ambassador, a partnership that arrives at a moment when many families are struggling to keep healthy, familiar food on the table. Her work in community wellness and her personal journey toward healing align closely with AfriThrive’s mission and with the realities families across Montgomery, Baltimore and Prince George’s Counties face every day.

Years ago, Dr. Ohh was diagnosed with high blood pressure and elevated cholesterol. Instead of accepting those conditions as permanent, she began studying the ways nutrition could support healing. She adopted a plant based diet, started juicing and began rebuilding her health from the inside out. Over time, she reversed those conditions and later built Dr. Ohhh Juice, a wellness brand founded on the idea that food can reconnect people to their culture and help restore balance in their lives.

Reflecting on why she joined the campaign, Dr. Ohh shared, “When I look at the families AfriThrive serves, I see the same concerns I once had in my own life. I know what it feels like to want better health but not have easy access to the foods that make that possible. This campaign is about restoring that access and honoring the cultural foods that nourish both the body and the spirit.”

Her perspective mirrors what AfriThrive staff and volunteers witness each week. More families are arriving at distributions as food prices continue to climb. Schools are requesting culturally familiar produce to support student wellbeing. Older adults are asking for foods that help them manage chronic conditions. The need is rising, and the path forward requires sustained community support.

AfriThrive has set a goal to raise thirty thousand dollars before the end of the year. These funds will help sustain weekly food distributions, expand the Food as Medicine program and strengthen outreach to neighborhoods where families are experiencing the greatest pressure.

Dr. Truphena Choti, AfriThrive’s Founder and CEO, reflected on the partnership by noting, “Dr. Ohh brings a grounded understanding of how food shapes health and confidence. Her journey shows what can happen when people have consistent access to nourishing food. Our communities deserve the same opportunity, and her voice helps illuminate that truth.”

Throughout the month, AfriThrive will share updates on the campaign and highlight the progress community support makes possible. On Monday, the organization will unveil its new truck and trailer that will expand AfriThrive’s reach and improve distribution capacity across the region.

Dr. Ohh views this campaign as an invitation for community action. “Food is a pathway to healing, connection and identity. AfriThrive understands that deeply. When families receive culturally familiar, nutritious food, they are not only fed. They are strengthened.”
