Earth Day Launch: New Website, New Roots – AfriThrive Combines Digital Tools with Dirt Under the Fingernails This Earth Day

Poolesville, Maryland | April 21, 2025 – In honor of Earth Day, AfriThrive Inc. will launch a new organizational website and introduce its latest campaign giving initiative, Grow With Us, a community gardening campaign that encourages families to grow their own food while deepening local connections. The launch event will take place on Tuesday , April 22, 2025, from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM at the AfriThrive Community Farm in Poolesville, 19125 Jerusalem Rd, with a simultaneous livestream available via Facebook Live.

The Grow With Us campaign invites supporters to give toward AfriThrive’s mission while receiving free tomato seeds and a detailed growing guide to inspire home gardening across the Greater Washington DC region. This  giving campaign not only helps raise essential funds but also aims to promote food sovereignty, sustainability, and intergenerational learning through hands-on gardening.

During the event, AfriThrive’s Agricultural Director Henrietta Isaboke will demonstrate tomato growing techniques and unveil AfriThrive’s easy-to-read  at-home tomatoes growing guide which outlines weekly care steps from planting to harvest. The guide is available as a free digital download on the new website.

The Earth Day celebration will include remarks from government officials, community leaders, and AfriThrive staff who will speak to the significance of community-based agriculture in improving food access and strengthening family health.

Dr. Truphena Choti, Founder and CEO of AfriThrive, emphasized that the campaign is about more than just gardening.

“Grow With Us is about cultivating resilience, belonging, and opportunity,” said Dr. Choti. “When families plant together, they’re not only growing food—they’re building knowledge, passing down cultural traditions, and creating a deeper sense of place in the community.”

AfriThrive’s new website, also launching on Earth Day, will serve as a hub for gardening resources, event announcements, volunteer opportunities, and ways to support the campaign. The organization encourages families to document their gardening journey using the hashtags #GrowWithAfriThrive #EarthDay #GrowWithUs and to engage throughout the season.

Members of the media are invited to cover the launch event either in person or virtually. Interviews with Dr. Choti, Ms. Isaboke, and local families will be available. Journalists interested in arranging coverage are encouraged to contact AfriThrive directly.
