Answers about our programs, community impact, and how you can get involved
AfriThrive is a nonprofit organization that empowers African immigrant families by increasing access to culturally relevant food, educational programs, and community support. Through our cultural farm, food distribution services, and community events, we promote wellness, sustainability, and cultural pride across Maryland.
AfriThrive serves families primarily in Montgomery County, Prince George’s County, and Baltimore County, Maryland. Our food distribution sites and cultural programs reach immigrant communities across these regions.
Community members can access food through our regularly scheduled distribution events. Dates and locations are announced on our website, newsletter, and social media channels. If you need direct support, contact us at [email protected] or 240-706-1517.
AfriThrive focuses on culturally relevant foods that reflect African heritage and traditions. This includes fresh produce grown on our cultural farm, such as pumpkin leaves, African nightshades (Managu), and spider leaves (Saga), as well as staples and pantry items distributed at community sites.
Volunteers are welcome year-round to support activities at our farm, during food distributions, and with events or administrative work. Visit our Volunteer page to sign up and learn about upcoming opportunities.
Donations can be made securely through our Donate page. Your gift helps fund culturally relevant food programs, educational workshops, and the upkeep of our farm. We also welcome in-kind donations and corporate sponsorships.
The Cultural Farm is at the heart of our food and wellness programming. It grows traditional African crops while serving as an intergenerational space for learning, connection, and cultural preservation. Families visit the farm to harvest, volunteer, and engage in community-building.
Our youth program is designed to build leadership, self-confidence, and community awareness. We engage young people through workshops, cultural learning, volunteer opportunities, and farm-based activities that strengthen identity and cultivate future changemakers.
